Cool classroom, but I think we have them beat when it comes to the KINDS
of technology we use. Read and then post a comment.
Maybe we should write to Channel 10 and let them know what WE are doing!

If I could chose to do everything on computers or write everything, I would most likely rather write. Having the computers is a nice thing to have but, if your computer gets a virus or is broken somehow, you may have a problem. Another thing that is bad about having a paperless classroom is that the school would have to pay for all the technology. Along with the school having to pay for all the technology, teachers would have to take time out of their own lives to update everything. As the article said, "Computers must be updated every couple years and Herrell estimates that she spends more than 10 hours a week finding age-appropriate Web sites that match her lesson plans." Even though paperless classrooms have some bad things about them, so does having to write everything. Taking notes gives your hands cramps, wastes paper and uses up ink. Despite the fact that it wastes paper, it helps you to remember things better.
Wow, insightful comment! I wasn't expecting this reaction, but I love the way you present a differing opinion with support from the article--way to go! :) (And in some ways, I agree with you!)
that would be great if we got computers in our classroom. it is also faster and easier and your fingers dont get tired but what about the kids who cant type well? at least thell be learning. also its good that that school with 86% free or reduced lunch gets that, it is a chance for them to live a dream. Good article
I think that would be a good idea to really stop relying on computars so much. Yeah, I love them, but like they said in the article, it could be the thing stopping you from actually GOING somewhere or DOING something. But I'm not saying it's a total bad thing. I like the way we use our computars, even if we're getting more dependant on them every day.
I think both opinions are thoughtful and we need both of them, computers to do more advanced research and write things when we don't have much time. But it would be too much using them every single day for everything because we wouldn't need dictionaries or paper, or even BOOKS!!! I think it's very important to do our own research and practice our grammar and spelling (which a computer can do by itself)so you are not learning or practicing anything. So if I would have to choose I would write everything, but I agree that sometimes you do need computers, they are helpful.
I cant belive that fith graders have built in comptures in there desk. I never had that when I was in fith grade.I don't think that is right to have kids on the comptures all the time in class for every day. There could be risks. Like the kids might get to dependent on them, if they get an assiment and the instructions say not to ues comptures thoses kids will be introbule.
