Back in 2004, during the time of the Madrid train bombings
an Oregon lawyer wrongly arrested and accused Brandon Mayfield. Brandon was then put in jail in Portland, Oregon. The FBI identified Mayfields fingerprint on a blue plastic bag that contained dangerous detonators found in a van used by the bombers.Several days later the indication of the fingerprint on the bag was wrong , so they released Brandon Mayfield from prison. Brandon then sued the U.S. government for damages. He settled in a lawsuit against the United States government for two million dollars and an apology letter. The apology letter stated that"The United States of America apologizes to Mr. Brandon Mayfield and his family for the suffering caused by the FBI's misidentification of Mr. Mayfield's fingerprint and the resulting investigation of Mr. Mayfield, including his arrest as a material witness in connection with the 2004 Madrid train bombings and the execution of search warrants and other court orders in the Mayfield family home and in Mr. Mayfield's law office." The attorney condended that he was a victim of profilling because he was Muslim.

1. I think the authors purpose is to show that one little mistake can turn into something big. Brandon Mayfield was accused of bombing a train and was put in jail before they fully investigated and found out that it was not him and for making that mistake it costed the United States two million dollars and an apology letter.

2. Another word for detonators is explosives.

This article was a great chioce because it proves that even the FBI can make mistakes. It is very true that people should be considered innocent until proven guilty in court of law. 1.) The authors purpose of publishing this article is to publicly announce that Brandon Mayfield was misidentified by the FBI that his fingerprints were found and associated with the Madrid train bombings. As a result he was wrongfully jailed and his family had to endore search warents of his home and office. The U.S. government apoligized and awarded him a two-million dollar settlement. 2.) Another word for detonators is activators or explosions.

I think the authors purpose is to show that smugling bombs is a great way to get your name in the news in a bad way. Another definition of detinator is for something to go off. Not like a bomb but like the power.

This article is great because it shows how wrong our goverment and twisted our country is. How they just jump to conclusions some time and dont follow through the investigation.

1. I think the authors purpose in writing this article is to tell readers that the F.B.I., the government, or anybody in general, can make a mistake. I agree with Emily when she said that a little mis-hap can turn into something big. In this case, a mis-identification of a fingerprint turned into a big lawsuit.

2. Antother word for "detonators" is explosives.

1. I think the authors purpose was to show how people who arrest and investigate people for making bad mistakes in their life...for example bombing trains...actually make mistakes themselves. and in this case, it was prosecuting an innocent man which lead to be a huge mistake costing the US a lot of money and time. In a way, it's kind of ironic, because the fbi trying to catch the bad guys actually make the mistake themselves.

2. Another word for detonators is an explosive.
